Located some fifteen kilometers from Paris, the Maison de Chateaubriand is open to visitors all year round. In 1807, the writer chose to settle with his wife Céleste in this former gardener's house in the heart of the Vallée-aux-Loups estate. The reason? A critical article about Napoleon, which prompted him to move away from the capital.
Chateaubriand chose to furnish the interior of the house himself - decorating it here and there with souvenirs and objects brought back from his travels - as well as the surrounding park. It was in this haven of tranquillity that Chateaubriand sketched out his Mémoires d'outre-tombe.
The turreted residence, whose ivy-covered facades are adorned with colorful flowers in spring, continues to host literary workshops and exhibitions. And in the surrounding park, ideal for picnics, strolls and reading - the trunk of one of the trees serves as a book box - there's also a small tea room in a romantic country setting...
This is your chance to immerse yourself in the world of this famous French writer, while enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the premises. A true haven of peace in the heart of a beautiful green setting, offering you the added bonus of a moment of disconnection. Perfect for recharging your batteries!
