Capitale(s), the crazy and free street art exhibition at the Hôtel de Ville de Paris in extension

Street art exhibitions are multiplying in Paris, for our greatest pleasure. After the Tuileries Tunnel transformed into an open gallery, theUrban Week at La Défense and the crazy exhibition of Jef Aérosol which is worth the detour, here is that the City of Paris unveils its new event exhibition, named: Capitale(s): 60 years of urban art in Paris.

From October 15, 2022 to June 3, 2023, it is a large-scale exhibition that is proposed to us within the Saint-Jean Room of theParis City Hall. Imagine an exhibition that includes the works of more than 70 street-artists of renown and less known: Miss Tic, Bando, Futura, André, Banksy, Invader, Swoon...

This exhibition is free to pay tribute to this popular art, accessible and available to all. It should be noted that the first will of the curators was to show that the works of street artists deserve their place in museums. For this exhibition, they had to take up challenges, to push the limits and to make the impossible possible.

We start the exhibition with history, archives, documentation and loans. Where does Parisian street art come from, what materials are used, what are the messages and consequences.

We discover creations from prestigious collections, but also archival documents, live interventions and realizations outside the walls in all Paris, which will allow us to learn more about the history of Parisian street art, sometimes unknown.

It must be said that urban art has embodied freedom of expression for decades and allows a renewed awareness of major societal issues. If this movement found its full recognition under the pen of the journalists and in its reception within the collections of the museums, the urban art draws well and truly its origin from the street and continues to express itself there on the walls and other urban supports.

Once down the stairs, several large spaces in a row open up to us. Different rooms and alcoves allow us a total immersion in urban or creative universe. Wherever you go or wander, art is hidden in every corner. Raise your eyes, turn around the walls and invest the different installations that open up to you.

Paris has played an essential role in the emergence of this movement too often reduced to its North American origins. Through this beautiful exhibition, the City of Paris also highlights the new artists who perpetuate its vitality in the public space.

In short, it's time to get out the agenda and take note of this exhibition which has the advantage of being sublime and free.
