Vincent Van Gogh, a true figure of Impressionism, spent the last years of his life in the charming, bucolic and restful village ofAuvers-sur-Oise, close to the capital. The surrounding fields and river lulled his imagination, and he produced some of his most famous paintings, nearly 74 in just 70 days. The town is celebrating the 170th anniversary of his birth, on the site of his final resting place, with an exhibition at the Château d'Auvers-sur-Oise, which unveils its second part, fromOctober19, 2024 to November 2, 2025.
To mark the occasion, the château has been completely redesigned to accommodate the presentation of the painter's last journeys. We take a journey to the heart of France, from his Parisian years at his brother's, to his last stay in the Val-d'Oise, via his excursions to Arles and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, through his works, which tell the story of his life and the landscapes that accompanied it.
This gives us an intimate insight into the artist's creative process, the personalities he worked with and his dreams, hopes and torments.
A true exploration of a village dear to his heart, devoted to the last four years of his life, in a scenography combining digital technology and original works, both his own and those of his contemporaries.
This second part of the exhibition features new, never-before-seen works, as well as an intense cultural program of guided tours, lectures, dance performances, plays and family workshops.
