China, Japan, Vietnam, Thailand... Populations from East and Southeast Asia have long settled in France. The Musée National de l'Histoire de l'Immigration tells the story of these population movements, in an exhibition running from October 10, 2023 to February 18, 2024.

For its first major exhibition since reopening, the Musée National de l'Histoire de l'Immigration is offering a retrospective on 150 years of Asian migration to France. This little-known part of France's history is highlighted in an exhibition entitled Immigrations est et sud-est asiatiques depuis 1860, on view from October 10, 2023 to February 18, 2024.

China, Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Korea, Cambodia, Laos: these East and SoutheastAsian countries are the homelands of nearly 6% of the immigrant population in France, according to the Musée national de l'Histoire de l'immigration. The Asian community in France is significant: it has its own history, traditions and cultures, which have evolved over the years, through generations and waves of immigration.

Colonization, war, the search for a better future, work immigration, travelers: there are many reasons for changing lives and countries. The exhibition recounts these different stories, these unique lives, and the collective challenges faced by Asian migrants.

Through objects, archives, works of art of all kinds, photographs and personal accounts, the Musée de l'Histoire de l'Immigration paints a broad picture of the history that links France and Asia. Stereotypes and racism, discrimination, aid and advocacy associations: everything is evoked, to draw a nuanced portrait of this history.

Alongside this exhibition, the museum is also offering acontemporary art tour: J'ai une famille. 10 artists of Chinese origin, living in France, present original creations that tell the story of their lives, their difficulties, the isolation, the racism, but also the richness of these multicultural families.

Two exhibitions to see from October 10, 2023!
