The Jeu de Paume is taking a long vacation this summer. The cultural center, located in the Tuileries Gardens on the edge of the Place de la Concorde, is forced to close its doors from May 12 to September 27, 2024. This is bad news for fans of contemporary photography, who won't be able to enjoy the center's events and artistic rendezvous this summer.
In an email sent to Pass Image subscribers (the Jeu de Paume's monthly pass), the museum tells its regulars that "the Jeu de Paume will be closed during the summer period due to the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. (...) Programming will therefore be suspended on our Paris site due to its proximity to the Place de la Concorde events. "
This decision is therefore influenced by the summer sporting calendar, and the security measures put in place around the Olympics. Indeed, the Place de la Concorde will be entirely closed to traffic from June 1, 2024, and metro stations will not serve this stop during this period. To limit the inconvenience to visitors, and to reduce security risks, the Jeu de Paume is therefore closing its doors throughout the summer.
Image Pass holders can rejoice, however: the end of their subscription has been postponed by 135 days, should it end after May 12.
