The Grand Palais and the Centre Pompidou are showcasing a new exhibition exploring Matisse’s final years of life and artistic innovation. This compelling showcase is open at the Grand Palais from March 24 to July 26, 2026.

Painter, draughtsman, sculptor, engraver... Henri Matisse is one of the most important artists of his time. A leader of Fauvism, he influenced a whole generation of artists. His work on simple, abstract forms, his choice of colors and the construction of his paintings have made him a recognizable artist recognized the world over.

Matisse kept creating right up until the end of his life. The Centre Pompidou and the Grand Palais are shining a spotlight on the artist's final years. An exhibition showcasing this prolific period opens at the Grand Palais from March 24 to July 26, 2026.

This exhibition, entitled Matisse. 1941 - 1954, focuses on the last decade of Matisse's life and art. After a lifetime of exploring, experimenting and perfecting his art, Matisse decided to try out a new way of painting and creating. The French painter experimented with cut-out gouache, a system that enabled him to achieve a long-sought level of simplicity, to produce motifs with a universal meaning.

At the Grand Palais, no fewer than 230 works can be admired, demonstrating the breadth of the artist's talent and the variety of his creations. On display are paintings, drawings, stained glass, illustrated books and textiles created during Matisse's last years.

A tribute exhibition to the great master of painting, not to be missed when the warm weather returns.
