He is a celebrity in the world of comics, and you have surely seen him in newspapers or bookstores: in over 40 years of existence, Le Chat has made millions of people laugh. This round feline likes to be ironic and make witty remarks about current events and society, without losing his deadpan expression and his trademark suit and tie.
Behind the costumed tomcat is Geluck, a Belgian cartoonist and author, who is exhibiting his work at the Musée Maillol, Paris, from November 14, 2025. Geluck and his Cat are at the heart of a major exhibition retracing Philippe Geluck's career, and the creation and success of the Cat character.
The Geluck exposes Le Chat exhibition features numerous drawings, sketches, watercolors, comic strips, paintings, silkscreens, sculptures and photographs... The exhibition paints a portrait of this creator, caught by the drawing and art bug as a teenager.
Visitors will discover the early works of this cartoonist withhis biting humor and sharp pen. Geluck discusses his influences, from Sempé to Siné, Bosc, and Chaval. The exhibition also covers his years as an actor, radio commentator, and television personality. The journey finally arrives at 1983, the birth year of the famous Cat, followed by the success and evolution of this character.
Through his drawings and publications, Le Chat has found his style and his audience. The very first representation of Le Chat may surprise you! Behind the gags and jokes, Geluck uses his character to analyze society and humanity, pointing out the absurdities and paradoxes of our lives. He also does not hesitate to take a stand when current events call for a strong response. The exhibition features very recent drawings, showing that Le Chat is still going strong, even after all these years.
The Maillol Museum exhibition also takes us into the world of art: in this section, Le Chat engages in dialogue with the great masters of painting and sculpture. Combining humor and education as always, Le Chat questions the works of Gustave Courbet, Pablo Picasso, Banksy, Johannes Vermeer, Andy Warhol, and others.
For fans of Geluck and Le Chat, this exhibition is a must-see: it showcases all the wit and humor of the character, as well as lesser-known, older creations that reveal another side of the artist. The exhibition features a variety of works that unveil the entire world of Le Chat.
Le Chat, Geluck and the Musée Maillol promise us an exhibition as amusing as it is surprising, to be discovered at the end of 2025.
