28 designers from across the European Union will be unveiling their artistic creations for more sustainable fashion, in a free exhibition atEuropa Expérience, from October 1 to 31, 2025. Visitors will be able to discover the solutions proposed by these artists to design tomorrow's fashion, notably through upcycling, the use of dormant stocks and the development of biomaterials. After all, the fashion industry is one of the most polluting today...
Every year, more than 12 million tonnes of textile waste are generated in the European Union alone, with the sector also using up large quantities of drinking water. With over-consumption, the production of clothing and footwear continues to rise, yet less than 1% of textiles worldwide are recycled.
The exhibition, which could be exported to other parts of Europe, gives a rapid overview of these major problems, as well as of European legislation aimed at transforming and regulating the sector.
European designers show how they give a second life to clothes, reusing unusual or famous pieces- one worn by Lady Gaga, others paraded during Fashion Weeks- from both haute couture and recycled materials, full of inventiveness! For example, there are little flowers that can be eaten, in the same material as candy, while another garment reuses cables to give it a lacy look.
The exhibition, which is rather small, with around twenty creations in the middle of the usual space, highlights a more responsible fashion on the continent, driven by the new generation, and will certainly appeal to creative upcycling enthusiasts or those simply curious to observe a different kind of fashion, at a time when fast fashion is becoming the majority. On the other hand, visitors who prefer a large, immersive exhibition may find the visit a little quick, but it's free!
