Until January 3, 2027, Nikos Aliagas is exhibiting at the Musée de l’Homme. Blending intimate portraits with scientific data, « Les Grands âges » examines our relationship with aging and the essential role of our elders, through a photographic exhibition.

The Musée de l’Homme will open on April 8, 2026 a unique exhibition at the intersection of anthropology and poetry. Set in the Foyer Germaine Tillion until January 3, 2027, this installation delves into the major stages of human life. It is the result of an unprecedented dialogue between photographer and host Nikos Aliagas, an expert on the subject, and biodemographer Samuel Pavard.

Visitors reflect on the role of seniors in society, exploring the connections between generations and the experience of aging through thoughtful photographs that capture warm and respectful gazes.

Between science and observation, the exhibition manages to convey the time that passes on faces and to reveal what is often silent, in intimate portraits that tell stories and lives well lived.

Beyond its emotional and poignant appeal, the exhibit also invites visitors to explore more scientific questions about memory and demography—touching on human longevity, the role of the elderly in society, the transmission of knowledge, rising life expectancy, and the public health implications of aging—through explanatory panels.

From photograph to photograph, it feels as if you’re meeting eyes that tell a thousand stories, sometimes moving or tinged with sadness, with Nikos Aliagas always explaining in a short caption the snippet of life behind the image. We observe, with tenderness, loving couples even in their later years, other cultures and their take on aging, sometimes far from ours, prompting us to reflect differently on the fear that can sometimes surround it.

With your ticket, also explore the museum's other current exhibitions, cementing its reputation as a space for reflection on the challenges of our time, thanks to its exceptional collections. The exhibition itself remains fairly small, so it’s worth pairing it with a more comprehensive visit.
