Contemporary art lovers have until August 24, 2026, to explore the exhibition "Clair-obscur: An Exhibition of Light and Shadow" at the Bourse de Commerce. While the Rotonde currently showcases Pierre Huyghe's latest film, this summer will see the space transform into a captivating, immersive installation conceived by none other than fog sculptor Fujiko Nakaya.
Born in Japan in 1933, Fujiko Nakaya is best known for her renowned fog sculptures. She created her first fog installation at the 1970 Osaka World Expo. Since then, Fujiko Nakaya has developed numerous fog-based artworks, showcasing her innovative approach in cities like Sydney, New York, Bilbao, San Francisco, and notably in Paris at La Villette Park in 1988.
Fujiko Nakaya is returning to Paris this summer, specifically from June 4 to September 20, 2026. For this edition, the artist will transform the Rotunda at Bourse Commerce to showcase her iconic fog sculpture, "Cloud #07150."
So, how do her fog installations actually work? Using an intricate system of high-pressure pumps and arrays of nozzles that release tiny water droplets resembling natural mist, Fujiko Nakaya creates an artificial fog that mimics the real thing. This summer, visitors in Tadao Ando's Rotonde will have the experience of appearing and vanishing within a dense, white cloud made of steam.
The Rotonde de la Bourse de Commerce is renowned for hosting monumental and immersive installations. In 2024, as part of the exhibition "The World as It Is", the museum granted a special creative space to Kimsooja. For this event, the South Korean artist covered the floor of the Rotonde with mirrors, creating her installation "To Breathe – Constellation". Then, in 2025, the Rotonde was transformed into an immersive aquatic and musical experience through "Clinamen", by Céleste Boursier-Mougenot.
This summer, the Bourse de Commerce is once again set to surprise and delight us with the mesmerizing fog sculpture "Cloud #07150" by Fujiko Nakaya. Mark your calendars for June 4, 2026, to experience this enchanting and unusual mist installation—an artistic display that promises to be both poetic and extraordinary!
