Two records!
With its colossal dimensions, Sacré-Coeur is bound to hold a few records. But do you know what they are? The most famous is the 475 m2 mosaic that spans the ceiling of the apse. Representing theSacred Heart of Jesus Christ, it is the largest mosaic in France and one of the largest in the world.
The second record is that of France's biggest bell: 3 metres in diameter, 9.60 metres in external circumference and weighing almost 19 tonnes! Nicknamed La Savoyarde, its original name is Françoise Marguerite du Sacré-Cœur de Jésus, and its arrival in the basilica required a 28-horse team.
