You no doubt know Hector Guimard for his remarkable contribution to Parisian architecture. The édicules above the Paris Métro? That’s him. A towering French architect, he stands as the leading exponent of Art Nouveau in France, renowned especially for the exceptional decoration of the Castel Béranger in Paris’s 16th arrondissement.
While many of its projects have faded over the decades, a few well-hidden ones still hold surprises. Its Hublotière or Villa Berthe, located in Le Vésinet and dating from 1896, opens its doors to you exceptionally this summer 2026, for a few euros, as in years past since 2023. Expect 5 euros for adults and 1 euro symbolic for children aged 3 to 12.
We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity, as the villa is a private property that remains inhabited, so its very affordable opening hours are not commonplace! Visits run from July 1–24, daily, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., then from August 31–September 13 and on September 19 and 20.
Apart from the gardens, which were opened to the public in summer in the 2000s, inside you can admire the decorated ceilings and staircase, which have been listed since 1979, as well as the facades. This is one of the architect's only buildings open to the public.
This first Art Nouveau villa in the"Guimard style" was built and decorated under the architect's orders, commissioned by Mr. Noguès, a wealthy man. The highly symmetrical main facade is impressive, with increasingly smaller windows on each floor.
If the villa is nicknamed the Hublotière, it's because of its astonishing porthole-shaped window wells! Like the Castel, the Ville Berthe is steeped in Guimard's encounter with Belgian Art Nouveau architect Victor Horta, with its many arabesques and light, airy spaces. Not to be missed!
