It's a must on the Parisian cultural calendar. Every year, with the arrival of fine weather, the Château de Versailles invites us to enjoy an immersive experience that takes us back to the time of the Sun King: La Sérénade Royale. The program includes a historical journey through the Royal Chapel, the Hall of Mirrors, the King's and Queen's Apartments and the Royal Court, taking us back in time to the life of the court.
Meetings are scheduled for Saturdays from June 6th to September 19th, 2026, as well as on July 14th and August 15th. Step back in time to enjoy religious chants, lively theatrical scenes, sword fights, or even an exquisite display of baroque dance. Alongside the Royal Serenade, visitors can also experience the Grand Musical Fountains and/or the Nighttime Fountain Shows, complete with spectacular fireworks, creating a magical summer evening experience.
This year, the Royal Serenade celebrates Marie-Antoinette. To learn more about this spectacular experience, let us share what we witnessed during our immersive visit to Versailles, once the Sun King’s residence. The tour kicks off with a group poetry lesson, followed by the King’s valet inviting visitors of all ages to enjoy a chamber music recital in the Vestibule of the Royal Chapel.
For 10 minutes, we listen attentively to the musicians, before being invited into the Galerie des Glaces: during the stroll, we pass through the King's Chamber and his apartments.
In the magnificent Galerie des Glaces, at twilight, you're treated to a funny playlet, the reception of the Sultana at Court, a show somewhere between dance and burlesque that's sure to amuse young and old alike. The magic works, but you need to remember to take a few minutes to find a vantage point in the main gallery, as tour groups are made up of 100 people and it can be quite difficult to enjoy the show if you stay at the beginning or in the middle of the room.
Finally, the King's valet invites us to watch a passionate fencing match in the Galerie des Batailles, the largest room in the Château, featuring paintings representing all the great battles that have marked history, from Clovis' victory at Tolbiac onwards.
By the end of the 45-minute visit, children are over the moon, having discovered colorful characters they'll remember forever, while older children are equally enthralled by this immersion in history. In short, if you're in the mood for a great family outing, or a theatrical visit to Versailles, in the company of your soulmate, your friends or on your own, don't miss out on the Sérénade Royale!
