The swimming in the Marne at Maisons-Alfort, in the Val-de-Marne (94), is back in service for summer 2026. After a first season that delighted visitors in 2025, the public bathing site set up on the former municipal beach, near the Charentonneau footbridge and the square of the Little Pirates, officially reopened on Saturday, June 20, 2026. A welcome bit of news for Île-de-France residents looking to take a dip in freshwater without leaving the inner ring, just steps from the Bois de Vincennes.
The Paris Est Marne & Bois area, which runs the site in partnership with the City of Maisons-Alfort, has kicked off the season. The beach is now open through the end of August 2026, from Monday to Friday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on weekends 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., weather and water quality permitting.
Situated at 76 Avenue Foch, 94700 Maisons-Alfort, in the Charentonneau district, the site is easily reached from the banks of the Marne. It offers all the comforts that have made the place popular: two separate pools for adults and children, lifeguards on duty, a pebble beach, expansive wooden decking, showers, picnic tables, and sun loungers available free of charge depending on availability. Reservations are made online on the Marne Bois Plages platform (À la Plage by Paris Est Marne & Bois) up to four days before the desired slot, with online card payment.
It remains possible to book on site the same day, subject to availability, and to pay by card or cash. On pricing, expect 3 euros for residents of the Paris Est Marne & Bois territory (with proof of address), 8 euros for outside visitors, and 10 euros for large families (2 adults and 3 children, upon presentation of the card). Access is free for children under 4 as well as for people with disabilities and their accompanying person, with proof. Note: those under 16 must be accompanied, and exclusive use of the spaces is now offered on request by email.
The big novelty for the 2026 season is here: the sites in Maisons-Alfort and Joinville-le-Pont will pioneer France’s first river-water filtered swimming pools. In practice, water is drawn from the Marne, locally treated with a sand filter to remove suspended particles, an activated carbon filter to capture organic residues, and UV treatment to destroy bacteria, before being returned to the basins. The area is also rolling out its “Marne & Bois Water Secure” program, a predictive digital tool able to forecast, to within half a day, any potential pollution in the river. Continuous sensors monitor the water’s bacterial quality, and the regional health agency takes three on-site samples per week, so swimmers can enjoy the water with peace of mind.
Forbidden since 1970 because of pollution, swimming in the Marne has made a comeback thanks to the major sanitation works carried out as part of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and the Bathing Plan. The Department of Val-de-Marne has recorded nearly 50,000 bathers at the Maisons-Alfort and Joinville-le-Pont sites during the 2025 season. Beyond the joy of swimming, the project revives the guinguette spirit along the Marne banks, those spots where Parisians used to dive straight into the river. We recommend booking your slots early for the hot weekends: last year the beach often sold out.
