Porte de Bagnolet district, in the 20th arrondissement, Square Séverine has become the neighborhood’s go-to park: a place to live, to play, to dream, to stroll...

Just steps from the famous La Campagne à Paris neighborhood, the square Séverine offers city dwellers a refreshing green respite. Tucked along the edge of the capital, near the Porte de Bagnolet in the 20th arrondissement, this square provides a welcome island of nature in a notably concrete district.

A pleasant stroll, with a park laid out on several levels, all overlooking a grand playground and of numerous bacs à sable for hours of play among children. Tables de ping-pong, agrès for a bit of outdoor fitness and tables de pique-nique are also installed within Square Séverine. Created in 1933, this square was initiated by physician and bacteriologist Albert Besson (according to Paris.fr), when he was vice-president of the Paris General Council and a municipal councilor for the district. Though the park was fully renovated in 2017, it bears the name of the French writer, journalist and feminist Caroline Rémy (1855-1929), nicknamed Séverine.

Throughout the walk, numerous majestic trees dot the paths: lots of white willows, a ginkgo biloba, a Judas tree, a weeping elm... And beautiful flower beds as soon as milder days return, all set within a neo-classical-style park (which, to the eye, recalls Kellerman Park in the 13th arrondissement of Paris).

Square Séverine is open every day, year-round, with hours that vary by season (and by sunset or sunrise). The park has dry toilets on site. To reach it, you can take metro line 3 toward Porte de Bagnolet and get off at the terminus, or the T3B tram line at the Séverine stop.

A lovely stroll through the 20th arrondissement!
