At Beaux Parleurs, it's not just words that show their qualities in the heart of Montmartre. On the legendary Rue Lepic, not far from the Sacré-Cœur, Vincent Galeraud and his bar-restaurant have decided to bring life to the Butte, which has been somewhat neglected by partygoers and is more popular with tourists than locals.
Behind the façade and the illuminated terrace lies a small cocoon where customers are taken care of as soon as they enter, served a perfectly mixed cocktail.
As soon as you walk in, the Namibian green marble bar, far from being cold, acts as a centerpiece, a spot where you can sit down to admire the bartenders creating little delights or have a quiet chat in a warm and central setting.
With soft, pleasant jazz music playing in the background, you can listen to each other and share a wonderful moment before settling down in the dining room, under a small canopy with a view of the street, or in an intimate room with a beautiful glass roof.
Beautiful materials, such as wood and velvet, blend with the gracious manners of our hosts, particularly Nacer, a true character who helps make the place unforgettable and plays with words without ever putting a foot wrong, accompanying the evening like a fleeting companion, with humor and impeccable service. And while you can eat at Beaux Parleurs, it is first and foremost a bar, where the art of words is as well practiced as the art of cocktails.
The menu rolled out the red carpet for us (€16), with a delicate and almost deceptive first cocktail, because despite the vodka, raspberry brandy, and Chambord liqueur, the strawberry and vanilla overpower the taste of alcohol and give it a very sweet and indulgent flavor. As for the Madeleine de Proust (€15), it's a real sweet dessert topped with a real madeleine, all presented in a neat and original way.
In the kitchen, chef Jiggzki works with fresh produce that changes with the seasons, and although the wait was a little long, it was well worth it. We opted for scallops (€30), grilled on the outside and tender on the inside, delicately buttered with Pineau des Charentes sauce, accompanied by roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes drizzled with olive oil. Light and creamy, it was a comforting and indulgent dish that felt like eating with family.
As for the semi-cooked duck foie gras (€17), marinated in Cognac and well peppered, the palate immediately senses its high quality, and it is so delicious and goes down so quickly that you almost forget it is a luxury product.
The menu also includes warm oysters with fennel, sea bream tartare with vanilla and mango, stuffed squid, mushroom risotto, and the famous Aubrac ribeye steak. It's a varied menu, but the prices are rather high, making it more suitable for a special occasion than a weekday dinner.
We tried some paprika fries, which lacked the promised spice but were nice and crispy. There are also sharing platters for nibbling, including a vegetarian version and even an original seafood version! For dessert, we opted for a pear poached in sweet wine (€12), a light and fresh choice to finish, thanks to the melt-in-the-mouth fruit and sweet red fruit sauce.
The Tarte Tatin brings the show to a close, the house dessert, sweet and sugary, ideal for fall and perfect for cinnamon lovers, despite a crème fraîche that was a little too thick for our taste. Note that while we recommend visiting in the evening to soak up the atmosphere, the kitchen is open continuously from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., so you can also enjoy a lunch special!
As a little surprise, there is a speakeasy from another era tucked away upstairs, but it is only available for private hire. It's a shame, because behind a dimly lit wine cellar, you'll be transported back in time to the Roaring Twenties, with an Art Deco marble table, a decidedly vintage sofa, a bar with magnificent marquetry, and the old lamp from the Casino du Touquet, among other things.
And since Beaux Parleurs wants to bring the Butte to life, it occasionally hosts niche music shows, stand-up artists, entertainment for the younger crowd, and cocktail-making workshops. Check out their social media for their artistic program so you don't miss a thing!
The ideal spot for loversof a cozy atmosphere, fine dining, and original cocktails who want to go out in Montmartre, but less suitable for those looking for a cheap place or a noisy atmosphere to party!
