In a timeless setting hidden from passers-by in the Odéon district, a cocktail bar awaits you hidden away on the top floor of Brasserie des Prés, in the heart of the Cour du Commerce Saint-André. Hidden from view, this rose-tinted showcase is nestled under the rafters, perfect for a warm, intimate evening sipping delicious nectars.
Somewhere between an attic and a boudoir, Grouvie is a not-to-be-missed spot, either after dinner downstairs or to end the evening in style, in a retro atmosphere, unless you prefer more open spaces and classic cocktails.
You'll feel right at home in this cosy Nouvelle Garde bar, seated in pastel velvet under a disco ball, looking for your future drink on a resolutely disco menu, all round and shaped like vinyl! The dozen or so cocktails, original creations imagined by world mixology champion Jennifer Le Nechet, are inspired by the brasserie's cuisine and pastries, for some surprising combinations!
To set the tempo, the Salsa du Démon (14€) gets our taste buds dancing, with rum, chili liqueur, pineapple purée with paprika and red onion shrub, which promised to be... caliente, to say the least. In the end, to please as many people as possible, the blend is less piquant than expected and almost lacks a little spice!
A dual-flavored cocktail, it starts out very fresh with a tropical edge thanks to pineapple, sweet and tangy, before the arrival of chili pepper in the throat, for a very surprising and successful marriage.
I'm So Excited (17€) is a change from the usual cocktails, as it resembles a dessert, with its beautiful champagne chantilly layer sprinkled with fresh mint. More than just gourmet, it's very sweet and herbal, before the melon purée arrives underneath, fruity and sweet, but with the bitterness of the champagne syrup in the aftertaste that you have to remember to mix well with the spoon.
Between cocktails concocted and very well advised by the smiling Aymeric and Pierre, we happily pick a few shavings of Comté AOP and truffled sausage to fill our stomachs, while the greediest can taste cromesquis, pâté en croute or parsley ham from the house.
Then there's The Whispers (16€) with its cloud vodka, whispering all its secrets, topped with a ball of goat's cheese with espelette pepper. It's best to nibble it at the same time, to bring out the cocktail's spiciness, enhanced by the flavors of sun-dried tomato and red bell pepper.
Finally, Oh Honey (16€) is easily the most visual of all, adorned with an airy bubble. Floral and soothing, it's drunk like a syrup in which lychee is very present, alongside gin and coconut milk, with a hint of lime, and leaves its mark on us with its sweetness and harmony.
As you'll have gathered, there are cocktails to suit all tastes, even those who prefer them non-alcoholic, to be discovered every night until 1am. It's a good idea to sign up for a waiting list if it's already busy when you get to the bar, as the street is very touristy, so you can't be sure of finding a table straight away as the evening progresses!
