Let us take you on a journey to discoverFay'si Tis, a comforting spot nestled in Paris's 11th arrondissement, where cookies, hot chocolate, and gourmet lattes await us without breaking the bank. Here, cookies are reasonably priced at €2.50 each, €4 for two, or €7 for four, while other shops easily charge €5 each. Behind this generous shop lies a beautiful story, that of Fayçal and his promise to Margot.
Fayçal arrived in France in 1998 with his family. His father ran a bakery in Harras in northern France, but after selling it, he moved to Paris in 2011 with few resources but a strong dream. After working in numerous Parisian bakeries for five years, he looked for a place to make his dream a reality. Today, Fay'si Tis exists thanks to a promise made to Margot, the little girl his mother used to babysit, who became like a little sister to him.
It was with her that he learned to speak French, sharing vacations and laughter. She couldn't pronounce his name correctly, so she called him "Fay'si," and "Tis" comes from his last name. One day, Margot confided in him her dream of opening a bakery that she would call "Fay'Si Tys." Unfortunately, at the age of 13, she died in an accident. The name of the bakery became his tribute to her, the realization of Margot's dream, where each cookie is prepared with love and in her memory.
Fayçal's goal is to make cookiesaccessible. With such attractive prices, you might expect smaller or less generously filled cookies, but the opposite is true. They are generous, often filled, rich in pralines and spreads. They are a real treat when they come fresh out of the oven, we promise. Everything here is homemade, with recipes named after iconic streets and places in the capital, from the Eiffel Tower to the Jardin du Luxembourg, via the Square des Batignolles and the Buttes Chaumont. But that doesn't mean he skimps on quality. Fayçal uses Valrhona chocolate, organic eggs and flour, and high-quality butter for his creations.
The shop also offers seasonal juices and healthy juices named after Parisian train stations. Try the carrot, apple, orange, lemon, and ginger blend, or the Gare de Lyon, made with spinach, cucumber, apple, lemon, and ginger. Those who prefer something more traditional can opt for the Gare du Nord, made with blueberries, banana, and coconut milk, or the apple, pear, and lemon version. Fresh juices are prepared to order and cost €3.80, a great way to treat yourself.
When it comes to hot chocolate, the shop offers three gourmet options that are out of the ordinary. On a base ofhomemade hot chocolate made with cocoa, a meringue is delicately brûléed with a blowtorch and topped with a generous scoop of vanilla, chocolate, or pistachio ice cream. We recommend starting with the hot chocolate through a straw before tackling the ice cream and meringue, otherwise you're guaranteed to end up in an overflowing pool. While the chocolate could have been creamier and more pronounced for our taste, it is undoubtedly delicious and generous, and should appeal to those with a sweet tooth. Lattes and hot chocolates are priced at €4.50, which is hard to beat for this level of indulgence and originality.
The shop has a few seats, although most of the business is takeaway, perfect for a comforting break in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine neighborhood, not far from Bastille and the Marais. It is open every day except Monday (but soon on Mondays too, Fayçal tells us), from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
In short, if you're looking for a comforting place with decadent cookies that are as generous as they are affordable and original hot chocolates that warm the heart, Fay'si Tis is worth a visit. You'll find this lovely spot at 183 Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine, a stone's throw from the Faidherbe-Chaligny or Ledru-Rollin metro stations.
