The pastry shop Le Jardin Sucré is reopening its historic boutique in Cernay-la-Ville, in the Yvelines, after a summer of renovations. France’s macarons champions Mélanie and Arnaud Mathez reveal, starting this September 2026, a fully redesigned botanical-inspired interior that invites guests to settle in and linger.

The pâtisserie Le Jardin Sucré has reopened its very first location, the one in Cernay-la-Ville, in the heart of the vallée de Chevreuse in the Yvelines (78). Closed this summer for a makeover, it has welcomed back its customers with a plant-filled décor where nature is highlighted.

We’ve tracked the brand since its early days in Paris, but it’s worth noting that its first boutique is actually located in the Yvelines. The result is harmonious and nods more to Jardin Sucré’s new visual identity, a look we’re already happy to see at the Dampierre chocolate shop and tea salon in the Yvelines.

What does the new Jardin Sucré store look like?

The green, the emblematic color of the House, now dominates the space. Every detail was crafted by Mélanie Mathez, who conceived the entire décor, from material choices to the staging of the window displays.

The real surprise is overhead. The head chef hates white ceilings—too clinical for her taste—so she had a wallpaper specially commissioned for the space. Water lilies, otters and butterflies drift through a fairy-tale backdrop, and you end up looking up without even noticing.

This motif didn't end up here by accident. It recalls her strolls along the Maincourt trail in the Yvelines, among frogs she loves watching, with otters as a bonus that she adores. An intimate nod to the valley landscapes where the two chefs grew up.

Under the glass-roofed windows, a long banquette invites you to linger for a moment. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a pastry with a hot drink, rather than rushing off with the box under your arm.

A small, amusing detail: the shop is tucked onto Place Paul Grimault, named after the director of The King and the Mockingbird, who lived in Cernay and lent his name to the village’s central square. An enchanted backdrop above the heads, on the square of a master of French animation—what a charming coincidence.

Who are Mélanie and Arnaud Mathez, France's macarons champions?

The couple opened a small shop in Cernay-la-Ville in 2012, in the village they come from. Two years later, the title of French champions of macarons changes everything, and the business moves into a roomier premises—the one we know today.

Since then, the venture has broadened to Paris, opening a shop on rue de Courcelles in the 17th arrondissement in 2017, and later to Dampierre-en-Yvelines, where a chocolaterie and a tea room sit in the former Auberge Saint-Pierre, just steps from the castle. Cernay remains the starting point and the production workshop.

What to order at Jardin Sucré in Cernay-la-Ville?

The macarons remain the signature, with a year‑round lineup of classic flavors complemented by seasonal creations. The vanilla macaron was recently crowned Paris’s best vanilla macaron by Le Figaro—a prestigious credential for a house based out in the countryside.

On the pastry front, the tarte pistache et fleur d'oranger with its molten praline center remains the house specialty since 2019. The lineup also includes lemon tart, Paris-Brest, Madagascar vanilla custard tart, and hazelnut tart, not to mention the ice creams and sorbets and a gourmet épicerie with house-made spreads. Expect roughly 7 to 8 euros for an individual pastry.

You’ll also find the house-made pastries, including the pistachio signature creations, cakes, and decadent cookies.

Right now, the shop window is leaning into back-to-school season. The blueberry tart and the fig and fig-leaf entremet take pride of place in the display, but they won't stick around: these seasonal creations are on offer only until the end of the month.

You can also fall for the Macaé tart, an intense chocolate with hazelnut praline, extra enveloping and made for days that grow shorter. It’s the one we’d gladly tuck onto the banquette under the skylight, with a coffee.

The shop at 10 Place Paul Grimault is a pastry shop, workshop, and tasting space all in one. It’s closed on Mondays and open Tuesday to Friday from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM, then 2:30 PM to 7:30 PM; Saturday from 9:30 AM to 7:30 PM; and Sunday from 9:30 AM to 1:00 PM only. All the latest information and current creations can be found on the official Jardin Sucré site, and an online shop ships all over mainland France.

Our take on this spot and who it's for

This shop is for those who like to take their time, for walkers in the Haute Vallée de Chevreuse Regional Natural Park seeking a break after a stroll, and for gourmands willing to go a few extra miles for a delicious, well-balanced pastry. It’s worth the detour, especially since you can sit beneath the glass roof and slow down.

One thing to plan for, though: Place Paul Grimault is a busy crossroads and parking fills up fast on weekends. On Sundays, the shop only opens in the morning, so you’ll want to organize ahead. If you’re coming from Paris, the day can easily pair with the Abbey of Vaux-de-Cernay, the cascading moulin, or Dampierre Castle, which is undergoing a renaissance and is just nearby. Naturally, you’ll also want to drop by the other shop that reveals beautiful chocolate confections, including this new creation with flavors ranging from buckwheat to vanilla, its design a nod to the ceiling of the Cernay shop.
