If you've got a hankering for the seaside, here's the right address to satisfy your desire for maritime flavors. In the heart of Paris's 12th arrondissement, on Rue de Charenton, a spot that looks like a beach hut awaits you for a delicious seaside aperitif. Le Coqui is the name of this gourmet address offering excellent value for money, to the delight of oyster and seafood lovers in general.
This is a family business run by two brothers, Timothée and Jeremy. Together, they have set themselves the mission of democratizing and dusting off the seafood platter with an affordable offering in a trendy, friendly setting. To help them in their mission, their father, Bruno Gauvain, Meilleur Ouvrier de France Écailler, sources the products to guarantee the freshest shellfish!
What we love here are the Coqui Mer, perfect for taking to the open sea. There's the Coqui Vin, with 6 oysters and a glass of white wine for less than €10 during Happy Hour, as well as the gourmet Coqui Céan, an already impressive seafood platter for around €60, including 12 oysters (Fines de claire n°3 or Spéciales Gillaudeau n°4), a crab, Bulots, four langoustines and prawns. To be shared with two glasses of wine, this allows you to enjoy a fine gourmet moment at an affordable price!
The tasting leaves no room for doubt as to the freshness of the products: the crab meat is deliciously melt-in-the-mouth, the shrimps are full of flavor, and oyster lovers will not be outdone! Lovers of specials will find the sweetness they're looking for, while those who prefer iodized flavors will be delighted with the fines de claire.
If langoustines weren't available when we visited, Le Coqui adapted by offering us a tarama from Maison Barthouil, a veritable institution. With no artificial coloring and 70% wild cod, it's a real treat! Imagine all this in an atmosphere where the spirit of vacation reigns, with a setting inspired by a beach hut and the rhythm of Cuban music... Here it is, that moment of escape we've been craving!
If seafood isn't the unanimous choice of your friends, don't worry! This tapas bar intends to put everyone in agreement by also offering a Coqui Terre menu, with formulas just as profitable as the Coqui Mer, this time featuring charcuterie.
And for those with a sweet tooth, there's one last stop to make before setting sail: the homemade chocolate mousse, with its airy texture and cocoa taste strong enough to please purists without creating that saturated sensation.
Alcohol abuse is dangerous for your health, please drink responsibly.
