Verrä: in Courbevoie, the autumn menu that makes you forget La Défense

Beef bourguignon, seven-hour lamb shoulder, roasted camembert… Facing the Charras market hall, Verrä shifts into autumn mode. French bistronomy at midday, a bar-lounge with cocktails in the evening, Sunday brunch: here’s what people are ordering now that the nights are drawing in.

A venue that changes its character as the day goes by

Courbevoie isn’t known for its nightlife hotspots. Nestled between office towers and residential blocks, the scene is mainly practical canteens and predictable brasseries. Verrä goes against the grain with a clear, uncompromising stance: a restaurant at midday, a bar-lounge in the evening, and neither experience sacrificed for the other.

The venue is spacious, with a terrace overlooking the Charras Market Hall, and a dining room designed for comfort rather than crowding, which, in a neighborhood where meals are typically eaten elbow to elbow, is immediately noticeable.

The hours tell the whole story of the project: open seven days a week, closing at midnight from Tuesday to Saturday. In Courbevoie, few places stay open that late.

In the kitchen, chef Grégory Guilbault

The chef sums up his approach in one line: flavor, the seasons, heart, and plates that truly count. The cuisine is French, homemade, with no flashy tricks. You can spot the house-made cordon bleu, Christian Parra’s black pudding, the truffle-topped croque-monsieur—dishes that take real effort, but you won’t find them on the menu just to impress.

Lunchtime: the 21-euro fixed-price menu

It's the unbeatable value for workers in the sector. Starter + main or main + dessert at €21, all three for €25, Monday to Friday, on the day’s chalkboard menu.

The main course is the €19 weekly special that changes daily:

  • Monday — house-made cordon bleu: chicken escalope, grated cantal, ham, Mornay sauce, meat jus, fries and salad
  • Tuesday — beef carpaccio with pesto, parmesan shavings, pine nuts
  • Wednesday — calf's liver with mashed potatoes and a sherry reduction
  • Thursday — barbecue-marinated beef ribs
  • Friday — mussels marinière with fries

The menu: classic French dishes and sharing plates

To begin, the silky courgette purée with its crispy tempura in a Comté espuma, Roman-style calamari, crispy prawns with a sweet-and-sour sauce, tomatoes with burrata, and the timeless eggs mayonnaise.

To share, two boards: the Mixed board with Saint-Marcellin, a charred goat cheese log, country pâté, ham and sausage, and the Verrä board, the more inventive option (house-made barbecue tenders, zucchini “brick” with goat cheese, crispy prawns, guacamole, tortillas, and a truffle croque). This is the board to order at the start of the evening.

Meat highlights, the Argentine ribeye with house fries, beef tartare, a chicken supreme, and artisanal black pudding with caramelised apples. Two signature dishes round things out: the beef press with carrots in three textures and the parmesan vegetable crumble, offering vegetarians more than just a salad.

Fish, refined salmon tartare and a salmon fillet, mashed potatoes and sauce vierge.

The 21-euro brioche buns are worth a detour, especially the Crustacean: crab meat, grilled prawns, avocado, guacamole and fried onions.

The salads are generous, ranging from Nordic-style grilled vegetables to crab and gravlax.

Evenings: a bar-lounge with cocktails and live music

Once night falls, the place shifts gears. The bar takes the lead, offering a crafted cocktail menu, and on Friday evenings live musicians perform, with the lineup changing every time.

This is the niche the sector has been waiting for: after-work in La Défense, until now you’d have to head into Paris to find a place to extend the evening. Verrä offers an alternative just two metro stops away, with a sharing board to go with it.

The venue can also be booked for corporate or private events, which makes sense given its close proximity to the headquarters.
