Sweet and savory Asian flavors, run to Taozi, the latest indulging spot in Paris 8th arrondissement! Set within walking distance from the Champs-Elysées, this bakery shines a light on the staple mochi, as well as sponge cakes. Shall we give it a go?

Over the past couple of years, bakeries have been blooming everywhere in Paris, making sweet-toothed feel like in heaven! Although some love classics such as Paris-Brest, Saint-Honoré or the staple éclair, others are more into originality and travel-inducing pastries. Do you belong to the second category? Then we have good news since we have found a new indulging spot likely to arouse your taste buds!

Head to Paris 8th arrondissement, within walking distance from the Champs-Elysées to discover Taozi. In this lovely shop, inaugurated in early 2022, discover mochis, thoroughly placed behind the windows. Diehard fan of this Japanese specialty, chef Tao – trained at the Ecole Ferrandi – has had the great idea to make her very first store in Paris focus on this Japanese treat based on sticky rice.

And to keep things interesting, 6 flavors are available on site, and recipes change every couple of weeks. Although classic flavor fans will definitely have the exquisite matcha-stuffed or black sesame mochis, fruit fans will head to the mango or strawberry mochis.

We highly recommend the milk tea mochi or the taro paste mochi which – slightly sweet – taste reminds us of sweet potato. All are very wholeheartedly filled. These mochis are prepared every morning by Tao and are a pure delight! We especially like the rather thin texture of the mochi dough and the very generous filling.

And if you want something more original, get the roasted mochi. But Taozi does not limit itself to mochis. The place also shines a light on more Asian specialties such as the sponge cake wrapped in chicken fibers and walnuts, and stuffed with black rice or taro: an original sweet and savory mix that will mark you. Craving for more? Discover the egg yolk roll cake, plain, taro or chicken fiber flavored.

To satisfy all cravings, Taozi also serves – sometimes for lunch – a dish for €12, inspired by Asia of course. That day, the chef cooked Japanese beef rice (seared beef and onions, smooth eggs, sushi rice and sweet Japanese soy sauce).

Careful, note only a few seats are available inside, so you better opt for the takeout offer.

With the opening of the Taozi bakery in Paris 8th arrondissement, the Parisian neighborhood enjoys a fantastic location likely to please all taste buds looking for a flavorsome gustatory journey to Asia!
