In recent years, pastry shops have been springing up all over the capital, to the delight of sweet tooths! While some crave classics such as Paris-Brest, Saint-Honoré or the indestructible éclair, others prefer to focus on originality or pastries that make you travel. Do you fall into the latter category? Good news, because we've found a new gourmet spot that's sure to tantalize your taste buds!
So we headed for the 8th arrondissement of Paris, a stone's throw from the Champs-Élysées, to push open the doors of Taozi. In this pretty stall, open since the beginning of 2022, you'll be delighted to discover mochi carefully arranged behind the window. A great fan of this Japanese specialty, chef Tao, who attended the Ferrandi school, had the great idea of featuring this famous Japanese dish made from glutinous rice in her very first Parisian patisserie.
And to vary the pleasures, no fewer than 6 flavors are offered on site, with recipes changing every two weeks or so. While fans of classic flavors will inevitably turn to the excellent matcha or black sesame filled mochis, fruit lovers will opt more for the mango or strawberry mochis.
We also highly recommend trying the mochi with milk tea, or the taro paste mochi, whose slightly sweet taste is similar to that of potatoes and sweet potatoes. All very generously filled, these mochis - cooked on site every morning by Tao - are a pure delight! We particularly appreciate the fine texture of the mochi dough and the ultra-generous cream inside.
And if you're looking for even more originality, turn to roasted mochi. But Taozi patisserie doesn't stop at mochi. It also features other Asian specialties, including the famous sponge cake wrapped in chicken fibers and walnuts, and filled with black rice or taro; an original sweet-savory combination that leaves no one indifferent. Want more? Discover our egg yolk cake, in classic, taro or chicken fiber flavors.
To satisfy all tastes, Taozi also offers savory dishes at lunchtime for 12 euros, with Asian flavors of course. On this particular day, for example, the chef had cooked Japanese beef rice (sautéed beef and onions, soft-boiled eggs, sushi rice and sweet Japanese soy sauce).

Please note that there are very few seats inside, so prefer the takeaway option.
With the arrival of the Taozi patisserie in the 8th arrondissement, the Parisian district has acquired a very nice new address that will delight all palates looking for a tasty trip to Asia!
