Coffee shop and seasonal canteen, Berry has settled in 2017 Le Marais, rue Chapon.
Running Berry, Shirley Lamy who discover the coffee shop culture during a trip in New York back in 2015. Culture she has brough back. And in addition to being a coffee shop, Berry is a seasonal canteen where Lamy serves Mediterranean and rather healthy food.
Berry menu changes with the chef's mood, several times a week.
Therefore, at Berry, you can enjoy lemony smoked paprika hummus, sweet potato gnocchis, labneh toast with roasted beetroots, and even zaatar foccacia. Recipes always based on fresh and seasonal ingredients.
The place managed to evolve since it opened. Especially thanks to the arrival of pastry chef Elodie Hureau in 2020. After working for Pierre Hermé, Hureau now concocts the sweet offering of Berry.
The pâtissière's sweet menu is changed every day, or almost. Cookies, cinnamon rolls, donuts, and babka rub shoulders with seasonal pies. Apple, chestnut, fig, and even blueberries fill them in, depending on the time of the year.
Set in Paris 3rd arrondissement, Berry reminds Lamy's natal south, thanks to the terracota hues. Inside, Berry can seat 17 guests, and as many on the terrace, set on Passage des Gravilliers.
Berry is set on a very quiet, not super crowded street filled with art galleries.
But to do so, you will have to wait. In the meantime, you can enjoy Berry cuisine on takeaway and delivery for lunch, from Tuesday to Saturday.
Berry is usually open from breakfast to late in the afternoon.
Berry's takeaway menu changes every day with 4 starters, a choice of main course between the current open-plan sandwich, the seasonal dish of the day, and the dwich focaccia. Without forgetting desserts.
To be honest, it is difficult to choose so much everything looks mouthwatering.
We yet had to make a call.
The lemon hummus is very tasty, and very hearty. Allow several meals to eat it to the very last crumb. We spread it over the olive and zaatar focaccia.
As for the main course, we went for the toast of the moment, inspired by the North with gravelax trout, lemon labneg, pickled vegetables, wild herbs, and soft-boiled egg. A very flavorful, fresh meal that gives trout its former glory back as it is often left out for salmon.
Moving on to the sweet offer, it was really too hard to choose. We then went for two treats. That day, Elodie Hureau prepared tartes tropéziennes with blood orange. A surprising, yet tasty and balanced mix.
Then, we kept a cinnamon roll for an afternoon snack. So good. Berry's cinnamon roll is super moist. It is definitely not dry or stodgy.
Berry also provides you with brunch to takeaway on Saturday. As for the babka, it is sold as a whole, to order.
Last but not least, Berry is slowly launching a delicatessen: you can find granola and homemade hazelnut and chocolate spread (the one filling the babka).
We fully approve this canteen to discover asap!
