If this place may ring a bell, it’s normal. Before being called Bistrot de la Gare, it was called Tour de Lyon, Taverne Karlsbräu or even Relais d’Alsace. As many names that have been following one another to welcome in 2019, Bistrot de la Gare!
Inside, the setting has been modernized while paying tribute to the past. We then discover a lovely collection of past posters to the glory of the SNCF or even railroad posters in black and white bargain-hunted here and there.
On the upper floor, with views on the railway station, on the ground floor or on the large angle terrace, Bistrot de la Gare provides foodies with a seasonal and homemade cuisine, in a bistro atmosphere of course!
We then have hard-boiled eggs covered with homemade mayonnaise, duck rillettes, cod and potato mash, steak and bistro sauce to enjoy with homemade French fries, green beans, mashed potatoes and even flammenkueche and sauerkraut, as nods to the Alsatian past of the place.
As for desserts, we fall for the dark Saint-James rum baba or the all-you-can-eat chocolate mousse! Moreover, prices are very soft (especially for a restaurant set just across a railway station!): you can get off for €25 for the starter/main course/dessert menu.
In other words, bistro cuisine we love!
