Save the date! The 2022 edition of the French Open also called Roland-Garros, will take place from Sunday May 16 to June 5, 2022, at the Porte d’Auteuil. For three weeks, the besttennis players in the world will play in Paris 16th arrondissement to give you a unique sporting show.
In addition to Gentlemen’s and Ladies’ Singles that are highly expected every year, the French Open also offers you many other events that you really do not want to miss:
This 2022 edition will be the occasion to enjoy the Trophée des Légendes again on court Suzanne-Lenglen, as well as the wheelchair-tennis and quad tournament without forgetting the charity day "Les Enfants de Roland Garros" on May 21, with DJ set and many entertainments.
What about novelties of this 2022 edition of the French Open? They have been shared this Wednesday March 16, 2022, during a press conference with French Tennis Federation Chairman Gilles Moretton, General Director Amélie Oudéa-Castéra and tournament's new director Amélie Mauresmo.
The first novelty involves the 10-point super tie-break change, played in the event of a 6-6 equality during the last round. This new rule will apply from the qualifications - simpel and double - in men and women. "The idea was to truly stick to the other grand slams. And keeping things interesting for viewers is a must. I hear it does not please everyone, but we, the four Grand Slams, could not longer allow to work this way", Amélie Mauresmo told the press brief.
Viewers can attend games in the night during the nighttime sessions, held for the first time, in full capacity, on court Philippe-Catrier from May 23 to June 1, at 9 p.m. They will be paced by a musical show to enjoy before the first game of the night. Amélie Mauresmo also wishes "Night Sessions to be the place to be for Parisian nights".
The main court, the famous court Philippe-Chatrier, will also house LED pannels, enabling to "stage players' entrances", Mauresmo added, willing to continue the tradition of this incredible tennis tournament, while making it more modern. Promoters also said Roland Garros will surf the NFT wave - or "non-fungible token". Player Gaël Monfils will help the team in this bold project.
French people seem to be still very deeply attached to the French Open. According to Gilles Moretton, 500,000 to 600,000 tickets have been already sold since March 8, 2022, when the ticketing service opened to the general public. As for late-night sessions, 100,000 out of the 150,000 tickets available were sold in 7 days only. Furthermore, Amélie Mauresmo announced 10-euro tickets will be soon available to people under the age of 25 to attend the qualifying rounds to discover before the final round.

After two years disturbed by the Covid-19 epidemic, the 2022 edition wishes to resume the French Open as it was prior to the health crisis. Although promoters keep an eye on the epidemic situation, indicators are green for now. "The context is favorable", Gilles Moretton said this Wednesday. As for the participation of champion Novak Djokovic to the French Open, "As things stand, nothing goes against Djokovic's participation to the French Open", Amélie Mauresmo said this March 16. For the record, the vaccine pass has been suspended this past March 14 in France.
What about Russian and Belarussian players (including Daniil Medvedev)? "So far" although they are welcomed, the organizers said: "we implement strict neutrality to Russian, Belarussian [...] players. We stick to the principle of EU and all key country Sport ministers arround us", French Tennis Federation General Director Amélie Oudéa said, before adding: "We only ban an individual athlete only if selected by their country. This is the rule and we comply with it".
The list of players taking part in the French Open will be revealed on April 11. Stay tuned to discover who will play at the Porte d'Auteuil this spring.
