Since May 2, 2019 Paris oldest cabaret – Paradis Latin – will welcome its new revue “L’Oiseau Paradis”. A resolutely modern show by Kamel Ouali which vedette is no other than former Miss France and Miss Universe Iris Mittenaere.

In 2019, famous cabaret Paradis Latin revue gets a makeover!
The show currently performed, “Paradis à la Folie” gives pride of place to French Cancan. Starting May 2, 2019 the new revue, “L’Oiseau Paradis” by Kamel Ouali has Iris Mittenaere as the vedette!

In 2015, Paris Lido changed its revue with “Paris Merveilles” staged by Franco Dragone. This year, it’s Paradis Latin’s turn to change its show for “L’Oiseau Paradis”.

L’Oiseau Paradis” is created and choreographed by Kamel Ouali. If for 8 years, he’s been the dance teacher on the French TV show Star Academy, he also choreographed musicals such as “Les Dix Commandements” (French production of The Ten Commandments), “Autant en Emporte le Vent” (Gone With the Wind), “Le Roi Soleil” (The Sun King), “Cléopâtre” (Cleopatra) and “Dracula, l’amour plus fort que la mort” (Dracula, love stronger than death).

For his new show, Kamel Ouali chose Miss France 2016 and Miss Universe 2016 Iris Mittenaere as the vedette.
If this lead role is the first one for her, Iris Mittenaere has already shown her dancing skills on French TV channels TF1 in late 2018 as part of the 9th season of “Danse avec les Stars” [Dancing with the Stars], she ended up on the second spot of the rank.
And this year, in February, she was the guest star of the “Fashion Freak Show by Jean Paul Gaultier for 7 performances. Her new challenge in “L’Oiseau Paradis”, it will be also the occasion to sing and dance.

Know that in addition to watch the show, you can dine at Paradis Latin before the show and enjoy the pre show. A first live show with singer Fallon, animal creatures will walk through the audience to warm up and a cello player will perform like 2Cellos.

Our review:

Like Lido's changed 4 years ago, Paradis Latin's new show is resolutely modern and contemporary. It doesn't completely break the codes of the traditional cabaret but Kamel Ouali adds a good splash of modernity especially thanks to new technologies. Video screenings are used a lot for the decor. But the stager also uses physical elements such as mirrors giving magnificent visual effects as soon as the show starts.

The futuristic scenes rub shoulder with more traditional scenes. The French Cancan for instance. After a vertical choreography where we can only see dancers' legs, the cancan is performed in a more traditional style that is also crazier before a finale with feathers and all the artists wearing white standing on a big staricase with an exclusive song playing in the background and especially written for the revue.

Dance acts are peppered by a comic duo with knives, darts, whip and rifle as well as acrobatics acts.
The entire cabaret is used for the show, especially the air with several beautiful and impressive hanging acts.

Acts are performed on songs performed live by Iris Mittenaere - who even though she isn't a great singer does quite well on "Supreme" by Robbie Williams, "Love to Love You Baby" by Donna SUmmer or even "Un Autre Monde" by Téléphone - the "Cabaret director" and Cyril Cinélu.

The show also includes a few references here and there to Iris Mittenaere's career. But the cabaret is first and foremost about France and Paris. Playing this card, Kamel Ouali even included "La Marseillaise" as well as references to the legendary Crazy Horse with several acts inspired by this cabaret with women with bare breasts, only dressed in light.

Another (very) positif aspect of the show, the cabaret waiters are completely part of the show and it's a great reward of their work that making them go up on stage.

This "Oiseau Paradis" is enchanting.
Go discover it!
