The Opéra en Plein Air festival returns in Paris with four exceptional performances of Giacomo Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” to discover from September 1 to 4, 2021 at the Hôtel National des Invalides. The musical event plans to take over four other remarkable locations in Île-de-France, in Yvelines, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-et-Marne, and Val-de-Marne.

Opéra en Plein Air has been performing opera arias out of noble walls since 2001. In 2020, the lyrical festival chose to shine a light on Italian composer Giacomo Puccini and his operaMadama Butterfly”. But the Covid-19 health crisis has changed the planning and forced Opéra en Plein Air promoters to postpone performances to 2021.

Save the date, then! In Île-de-France, it is in at least five remarkable locations in the area you can attend exceptional performances of “Madama Butterfly” as part of the 20th edition of Opéra en Plein Air sponsored by Franck Ferrand. Meet on June 11 and 12 at the Domaine Départemental de Sceaux, on June 18 and 19 at the Château de Champs-sur-Marne, on July 2 and 3 at the Domaine de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, on July 9 and 10 at the Château de Vincennes, and last but not least on September 1, 2, 3 and 4, 2021 at the Hôtel National des Invalides in Paris. because of the health crisis, the audience will be limited to 5,000 people in the Invalides courtyard, do not think twice and book tickets now.

Performed for the first time in 1904 at the Milan La Scala, “Madama Butterfly” is a two-act Japanese tragedy. In this 2020 version is staged by Olivier Desbordes (who worked with Tina Turner and Karl Lagerfeld) who chose to put “Madama Butterfly” in Japan fragilized by earthquakes, typhoons, and the recent tsunami and the nuclear disaster that followed.

In this “Madama Butterfly” created by Desbordes, musical conduction is entrusted to Dominique Trottein (Théâtre Mogador conductor for “Chicago” and “Ghost” musicals – among others). Anne Gravoin is a violin soloist, and Serenad Burcu Uyar is Madama Butterfly.
