Following a prefectural decree issued by the Seine-et-Marne department, fireworks are banned due to the risk of fire amid the scorching early July heat. In Mormant, the fireworks display and the torchlight procession are cancelled, but the concert at Ferme Bachelier will go ahead, as will the food service and the beer tent.
Every summer, the 14 July holiday lights up the entire country—and Paris leads the way. In the capital, the indispensable military parade on the Champs-Élysées kicks off the celebrations in the morning, followed by the grand classical concert at the foot of the Eiffel Tower and the fireworks awaited, fired at nightfall from the Trocadéro. The popular dances, the evenings in fire stations turned into dance floors, the open-air shows and the musical performances are in full swing across all districts. The eve, July 13, sees all of Île-de-France come alive: fireworks, brass-band dances and neighborhood fêtes in a decidedly festive and family-friendly atmosphere in major towns like Versailles, Saint-Denis, Rueil-Malmaison or Meaux… The mood everywhere is festive, joyful, and 100% tricolore.
What if this year you set your sights to the east? Head to Mormant, a charming commune in Seine-et-Marne (77), nestled between Melun and Provins. This human-scale village (a little over 4,000 residents) also marks the Bastille Day, with a big open-to-all evening hosted at the Bachelier farm.
