Because of the ongoing forest fires, the town of Fontainebleau is canceling all Bastille Day celebrations.
Every year, France celebrates its national holiday on July 14th, a date that refers in particular to the storming of the Bastille, a landmark event in the country's history. Nowadays, this public holiday is marked by traditional celebrations including a military parade down the Champs-Elysées, fireworks displays all over France, including the one fired from the Eiffel Tower, as well as firemen's balls and popular dances.
And the Île-de-France region is also getting in on the action. In the Paris area, National Day festivities are typically spread across July 13 and 14, 2026. If you plan it right, you can put together a great two-day program.
If you live in Seine-et-Marne, or would like to take advantage of July 14th to get to know the department better, we'll take you to Fontainebleau to discover the program that awaits you this year. For the Fête Nationale, three highlights await you: a military parade, a picnic and a Republican ball!
And if you fancy a trip to the beautiful town of Fontainebleau, don't miss out on its magnificent château and sumptuous gardens. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a must-see !
In view of the exceptional forest-fire situation in the Fontainebleau forest, the town of Fontainebleau is cancelling all festivities scheduled for July 13: activities planned from 4 p.m. at Place de la République, the military parade and parade of vintage vehicles, as well as the picnic and the Republican ball.
Julien Gondard, the mayor of Fontainebleau, says the absolute priority is the safety of everyone and keeping rescue services ready to respond. The decision is tough, but it’s the only one that can support the firefighters and all the people operating on the front lines.
