Want to celebrate the Easter holidays in a totally original way? Head to Wonderland Pâtisserie, a tea room in the 14th arrondissement where chef Rodolphe Groizard unveils year-round pâtisseries en trompe-l'œil that delight both eyes and taste buds! For this very chocolatey period, this foodie hotspot presents a collection of six chocolates disguised as pastries, filled with dried fruits, sure to please the whole family.
If you’re a regular at this bakery, you’ve probably already spotted these creations before. But for Easter, they’re now offered in mini format and they’re worth their weight in gold.
Unlike many magnificent chocolates whose centers are hollow, these are as beautiful on the inside as on the outside, since they are all garnis de praliné et d’un insert caramel beurre salé decidedly indulgent.
Let’s explore the six sculptures, handcrafted by the chef and each one entirely unique! We’re whisked back to childhood with the colorful carousel Fantasia (170g, €16), built around a 55% dark chocolate praline with roasted pistachios, a caramel insert, more roasted pistachios, and speculoos biscuits.
The Moaï (130g, €12.50) invites us to voyage across the seas with a stone-faced praline milk chocolate (33%) studded with roasted peanuts, a caramel center with more roasted peanuts, and a green-tea almond crumble.
The Baobab (170g, €15.50) and its soft branches are filled with a 55% dark chocolate praline and roasted pecans, a caramel insert with more roasted pecans, almond paste, and roasted pistachio crumble.
If you’re more into macadamias, opt for the Pine Cone (170g, €16) and its praline milk chocolate 33%, caramel, macadamia nuts, caramel and roasted macadamias, milk chocolate coffee shell, dark chocolate petals 55%, cacao-coffee-pecan crumble.
As you may have guessed, there’s something for every dried-fruit aficionado, and all that’s left is to pick your favorite — not to miss the Champi (180g, €15): 55% dark chocolate praline with toasted hazelnuts, caramel and toasted hazelnuts insert; and the Ananas (190g, €16.50): milk chocolate praline with almonds, caramel and toasted almonds, milk-chocolate-cinnamon coating, almond-cinnamon crumble.
A little favorite for the latter, sure to please fans of this delicate spice, which lingers on the palate; the caramel filling is equally irresistible, pairing beautifully with any accompaniment—dense and pleasantly crunchy. As for dark-chocolate lovers, this one tends toward a milder profile, making it approachable for all palates, even those accustomed to sweeter notes.
Note that several of these chocolate pastries are gluten-free. A useful detail: there’s no delivery for these delicate creations, so you’ll need to swing by the shop to pick them up before Easter. The collection remains remarkably affordable, with items never exceeding 16.5 euros.
We had the chance to sample them too, and even though their size isn’t huge, a single piece can stretch for days (unless you’re feeding a crowd). For the sweet-tooths among us, the filling is rich and generous, so enjoy it in moderation and make it last longer!
