Direction Alesia and Rodolphe Groizard's Wonderland pastry shop. This former chef of a starred restaurant has a passion for trompe-l'oeil and dedicates his pastry shop-tea room to original creations that are as surprising visually as they are in taste. Cactus, armchair, merry-go-round or Moaï statue are part of his desserts that will ravage your table!

Would you like to try an armchair? At Wonderland, the question is frequently asked. In this little address on Avenue du Maine, in the 14th arrondissement, Rodolphe Groizard has been serving up some strange pastries since 2019. After 12 years in a Michelin-starred restaurant, where he was voted 2017 Pastry Chef of the Year for Western France by Gault & Millau, this rather reserved chef is putting his technical knowledge to the test.

The eight patisseries of the moment - individual entremets and a seasonal tart - required a great deal of thought on his part. In his own words, he "pushes the raw material to its limits" to come up with an original cake every time, with surprising flavors and visual appeal.

But the results are clear: his Pause brandy, an armchair-shaped pastry with smoked chocolate and peated whisky crème brulée flavors, is a great success, as is his Armelle, one of his signature desserts that revisits the love apple with passion fruit and toasted almonds.

We also fell for the Bonzaï, with matcha tea and black sesame, and the Cactus. TheEdelweiss caught our eye with its coconut-passion and chestnut cream combination, and the surprising Fantasia, with its child's merry-go-round shape and chocolate raspberry and salted butter caramel flavors, will keep us coming back for more. All the pastries are in individual format, but the chef reassures us that they can be staged for special occasions such as family dinners and birthdays.

Wonderland is also a tea room, seating 12 inside and 8 on the terrace in fine weather. Rodolphe designed all the decor with his sweetheart, and even made the tables themselves. He's proud of the work he's accomplished, despite the difficulties; for him, setting up in Paris was a necessity to reveal his culinary art, as he wouldn't have been able to sell his desserts in any other city.

Alongside this, the chef offers a range of sweet treats: chocolate bonbons, homemade granola, seasonal ice creams sold all year round (with a special mention for the beeswax-infused ice cream), as well as savory snacks, ideal for lunches on the go: paprika croques-pain with dried bacon, farmhouse reblochon and chorizo (8 euros), mixed salads with seasonal vegetables and seasonal soups. Simple, healthy cooking that respects seasonal produce.

Here's an address to keep for pastries that really pop, and a place to go for tea and coffee in the 14th arrondissement!
