Created in 1984 by the French Ministry of Culture, the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) have become a not-to-be-missed event for history and culture lovers in France. This annual event, usually held on the third weekend in September, gives the public almost exclusive access to historic monuments, museums, châteaux and even places usually closed to the public. In Paris, this event is a unique opportunity to discover the capital's rich architectural, artistic and cultural heritage.
In 2024, the Journées du Patrimoine will take place on September 20 and 21, with an exceptional program. In Paris and the Île-de-France region, emblematic sites such as the Palais de l'Elysée, theOpéra Garnier and the Panthéon will be opening their doors. Numerous guided tours, temporary exhibitions and workshops for young and old will be on offer throughout this major cultural weekend.
The Maison de Fer de Poissy, built at the end of the 19th century, is a one-of-a-kind structure. Made of metal, it is the fruit of the ingenuity ofengineer Joseph Danly, who sought to demonstrate the advantages of iron in construction. A testament to an era when metal embodied modernity and innovation, the house is now a historic monument. During the Journées du Patrimoine, you can discover its atypical architecture, its fascinating history, and the initiatives put in place to preserve it. A not-to-be-missed visit for architecture and industrial history enthusiasts.
