As many French children prepare to head back to school, a decree published in the Journal Officiel (the French official gazette) unveils, zone by zone, the school vacation schedule for the year 2023-2024. All students will return to school on Monday, September 4, 2023. They will then be able to take advantage of the All Saints' vacation, starting on October 21.
When is the All Saints' vacation ? When will Zone C students be on vacation in spring 2024? A decree published on December 8 in the Journal Officiel unveils the school vacation calendar for the 2023-2024 school year.
Classes will resume for all students on Monday, September 4, 2023. After that, students will be able to take a breather from October 21 for the All Saints' vacation. Then it's on to the Christmas vacations, from Saturday December 23, 2023 to Monday January 8, 2024. For the winter and spring vacations in 2024, students in zone C will go first. Finally, the end of the school year is set for July 6, 2024.

Vacation begins on the days indicated, after school. For students who do not have classes on Saturdays, vacation begins on Fridays after school. Classes resume on the morning of the days indicated.
And this decree published in the Journal Officiel goes even further, unveiling the school calendar for the next three years. For the 2024-2025 school year, pupils will start school on Monday, September 2, 2024, while they will be able to go on summer vacation as early as Saturday, July 5, 2025. For the 2025-2026 school year, the start of the school year is set for Monday, September 1, 2025, with summer vacation beginning on Saturday, July 4, 2026.
We remind you of the three zones A, B and C:
- Zone A: the academies of Besançon, Bordeaux, Clermont-Ferrand, Dijon, Grenoble, Limoges, Lyon and Poitiers.
- Zone B: Aix-Marseille, Amiens, Caen, Lille, Nancy-Metz, Nantes, Nice, Orléans-Tours, Reims, Rennes, Rouen, Strasbourg.
- Zone C: the academies of Créteil, Montpellier, Paris, Toulouse and Versailles.
As for bridging days and public holidays in 2023-2024, All Saints' Day will fall on a Wednesday, while Christmas 2023 will be a three-day weekend for the lucky few. Armistice Day on November 11 and Bastille Day on July 14 will fall on a Saturday and Sunday respectively. You can make up for this with May 1 and May 8, 2024, which will fall on a Wednesday. Note that in 2024, Ascension Day falls on the day after May 8.
