Announced in December 2020 by Emmanuel Macron, the implementation of the food voucher should finally see the light of day in the coming months. Bruno Le Maire confirmed that aid would be granted "to the most modest".

In December 2020, Emmanuel Macron already promised the implementation of a food voucher for the most precarious. This measure has been postponed several times, but should finally see the light of day in the coming months. This Monday, March 6, 2023, the Minister of Economy and Finance Bruno Le Maire announced at a press conference : " There will be a food voucher for the most modest. I discussed this with the head of the FNSEA when I was at the Salon de l'Agriculture. We discussed it with the Minister of Agriculture Marc Fesneau and with the Minister of Solidarity Jean-Christophe Combe. There will indeed be for the most modest, those with the lowest incomes, a food voucher. "

The minister also added: " This food voucher will be on a territorial basis. It will probably be linked to the departments, so as to be as close as possible to consumers and agricultural producers. An experiment will be launched in the coming months. The food voucher was promised by the President of the Republic (...) It is a strong expectation of the poorest and most modest. It is also a strong expectation of the agricultural world.

The amount of this check, the eligibility criteria to receive the aid, and the date on which it will be implemented are still unknown. It is likely, however, that the check will be distributed before the summer of 2023.

This new financial windfall, intended for the poorest people who have difficulty feeding themselves, is highly anticipated. If the government is slow to implement it, it is because it wants to ensure " that the money goes to those who really need it ," said Bruno Le Maire in 2021.

This recent announcement by the minister comes against a backdrop of highinflation and concern for households. This new aid is part of a set of measures to ensure accessible food for all French people: to counter the month of "Red March", the government launches its plan of " anti-inflation quarter " in supermarkets. This food voucher should theoretically allow them to have access to local, organic and good quality products more easily.
