For the past nine years, the City of Paris has been counting the homeless people on the streets during the Night of Solidarity, organized in collaboration with various charities. Nearly 2,000 volunteers and social workers traverse the city’s streets, visiting RATP metro stations, SNCF train stations, underground parking lots, the woods of Boulogne, Vincennes, and along the ring road to identify those experiencing homelessness, record their numbers, and provide support. This year, the count is scheduled for January 22, 2026.
Every year, the Mairie de Paris has a shortage of volunteers to carry out this important mission, and is calling on Parisians who wish to do so. Registration is open to anyone over 18, until next January. The aim of the Nuit de la Solidarité is to gain a better understanding of the profiles and needs of the homeless, in order to adapt the capital's emergency and social services and accommodation requirements.
4,292 people were found sleeping outside in Paris in 2025—more than the previous year—including 785 in the participating municipalities of the Greater Paris metropolitan area. As in recent years, about thirty municipalities in Seine-Saint-Denis and the Hauts-de-Seine are joining the effort, alongside the capital.
