Discussed for years, the maintenance works around the Eiffel Tower project seems to have found its way and is likely to be up for the 2024 Summer Olympics.

The renovation project around the Eiffel Tower is in the pipes since 2017 and so far, it was the ONE project that was about to be carried out. But the project created by American landscapist Kathryn Gustafson has experienced lots of critics so much that the period of reflection was longer than planned. In a JDD article, first deputy mayor Emmanuel Grégoire is willing to end the project for the 2024 Olympics.

The deputy mayor told the weekly newspaper the ONE project was to be completed at 95%, that it to say between Trocadero and Champ-de-Mars there will be a “landscape continuity”. Its specialty is that there will be fewer cars and more greenery. But facing the scandal of the works price and their content, a few changes have been made: the budget is cut off by 7 million euros, for a total near 100 million euros. And nothing will be built at the foot of the Eiffel Tower – which is the point that triggered the most incomprehension in Parisians.

For the rest, everything is maintained: the Place du Trocadero will enjoy an extra 2,000sqm of plant-filled surface, in addition to the 2,500 already existing and the esplanade will be mostly pedestrianized, removing the traffic circle for four lanes. The Allée de Varsovie will enjoy an extra 3,000sqm of pitch, and the Allée du Champs-de-Mars will be renovated.
