Paris and Île-de-France transport: Metro and RER disruptions from September 21 to 27, 2026

Public transport in Paris and the Île-de-France region is set for widespread disruptions from Monday, September 21 to Sunday, September 27, 2026. Ongoing works mean sections of the metro, the RER, the Transilien lines, and several tramways will be closed.

This week again, the public transport in Paris and in Île-de-France is dealing with a long list of works. From Monday, September 21 to Sunday, September 27, 2026, several lines of metro, RER, Transilien and tramway operated by the RATP and the SNCF will not be running normally.

Paris proper isn’t the only area affected. The outages also hit the Val-d'Oise, the Yvelines, the Essonne and the Seine-et-Marne, not forgetting the Hauts-de-Seine, the Seine-Saint-Denis and the Val-de-Marne. Most outages occur in the evening, Monday through Friday, but the weekend of September 26 and 27 also brings its share of closures.

On top of these works, a major event looms: the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Paris on September 25 and 26, which will trigger the closure of several stations in central Paris. To spare you from being stuck on the platform, we’ve gone through it, line by line.

Pope Leo XIV's visit: which stations will be closed on September 25 and 26?

On Friday, September 25, the papamobile route from Notre-Dame-des-Champs to Saint-Michel, followed by the excursion around UNESCO, will involve closures of metro and RER stations in the 5th, 6th and 7th arrondissements at various times throughout the day.

On Saturday, September 26, the pope’s Mass will trigger closures and bus disruptions around Concorde, the Champs-Élysées, the Invalides, and the National Assembly. All road and parking restrictions are laid out in our guide dedicated to the pope’s visit.

What disruptions are expected over the weekend of September 26–27, 2026?

If you're planning a weekend outing, plan ahead. The RER E will not run between Nanterre-La-Folie and Tournan all weekend, effectively taking a large stretch of the line out of service. The RER C is also cut between Invalides and Juvisy, and between Invalides and Palaiseau, on Saturday and Sunday until 5 p.m.

On the metro side, Line 13 is completely shut down on Sunday, September 27 until noon. In Seine-et-Marne, the Transilien lines P and R also run with interruptions on several sections on Saturday and Sunday. Find the details in our weekend disruption update.

Metro: which lines are disrupted this week?

Three lines of Paris Metro are affected by maintenance work. Two stations will remain closed for an extended period, and one line will have a Sunday morning off.

Line 4: until December 19, 2026 inclusive, trains will not stop at Saint-Michel due to renovation work. Here's why this four-month closure is necessary.
Line 8: until April 22, 2027 inclusive, the station République is not served due to renovation work. All details of this long-running project.
Line 13: on Sunday, September 27, service on the entire line will be interrupted until 12:00 due to modernization works.

For Saint-Michel, the nearby Odéon and Cité stations remain accessible via Line 4. At République, Lines 3, 5, 9 and 11 continue to serve the station, easing the hassle of reaching the 3rd, 10th or 11th arrondissement.

RER A, B, C, D and E: what's changing from September 21 to 27, 2026

All five RER lines are affected this week. Closures are mainly in the late evening, though some also occur during the day or on weekends.

RER A Line

Until October 9 inclusive, on weekdays from 10 p.m., service is suspended between Nanterre-Préfecture and the Cergy-le-Haut and Poissy branches due to works.

RER B

Until Thursday, September 24 inclusive, Monday to Friday from 10:45 p.m., service is suspended between Châtelet-Les Halles and the Mitry-Claye and Charles de Gaulle 2 TGV branches due to maintenance work.

Through October 2 (inclusive), Monday to Friday starting at 9:30 PM, service is suspended between Pontoise and Avenue Henri Martin due to works.
Through September 25 (inclusive), Monday to Friday from 10:00 AM to 4:15 PM, Ivry-sur-Seine, Vitry-sur-Seine and Les Ardoines stations are not served due to works.
Sunday, September 27 from 11:00 PM, service is suspended between Gare d'Austerlitz and Dourdan-la-Forêt due to works.
From September 21 to October 2 (inclusive), Monday to Friday starting at 10:00 PM, service is suspended between Gare d'Austerlitz and Pont de Rungis–Aéroport d'Orly due to works.
Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27, until 5:00 PM, service is suspended between Invalides and Juvisy, as well as between Invalides and Palaiseau, due to works.

To reach Orly Airport in the evening, Line 14 of the metro, which now serves the airport, remains a convenient option from central Paris.

RER D line

Until September 25, inclusive, on weekdays from 11:15 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., service is halted between Gare de Lyon and the Melun and Corbeil-Essonnes branches due to maintenance work.
Until September 25, inclusive, on weekdays starting at 11:35 p.m., service is suspended between Creil and Gare du Nord for maintenance work.
Saturday, September 26 and Sunday, September 27, from 11:15 p.m., service is interrupted between Gare de Lyon and Juvisy as well as toward Combs-la-Ville-Quincy due to maintenance work.
From September 21 to 25, inclusive, on weekdays from 10:11 a.m. to 2:18 p.m., service is suspended between Corbeil-Essonnes and Malesherbes because of maintenance work.
Until October 2, inclusive, on weekdays from 11:15 p.m., service is halted between Gare de Lyon and the Melun and Corbeil-Essonnes branches for maintenance work.

RER E

From September 26 to November 1 (weekends included), service between Nanterre-La-Folie and Tournan will be suspended for maintenance work.
From September 26 to October 24 (weekends included), from 10:45 p.m., service between Nanterre-La-Folie and Chelles-Gournay will be suspended for maintenance work.

Transilien: lines H, J, L, N, P, R and U affected

Transilien trains aren't spared either. Seven lines are experiencing disruptions, mainly in the evenings, with noticeable impacts in Val-d'Oise, Yvelines and Seine-et-Marne. Something to keep in mind if you're heading home late.

Rail traffic is suspended between Sarcelles-Saint-Brice and the Luzarches and Persan-Beaumont lines from Monday to Friday starting at 9 p.m. due to maintenance work.

Line J

Tramway: T4, T5, T7, T13 and T14 disrupted

Several tramway lines are also affected, by construction work as well as by a cultural event and security measures.
