While parties and other events are multiplying in Paris on October 31, some are going the extra mile to be original. This is the case for the RATP, which has been broadcastingspecial soundscapeson several metro lines since Thursday evening. Some of these have been heard on trainsat Porte Maillot, Tuileries, Champs-Élysées - Clemenceau, Châtelet, Saint-Paul, Gare de Lyon, and Porte de Vincennes stations (line 1), as well as at Odéon, Cité, Château Rouge, Étienne Marcel, Raspail, and Barbara stations (line 4).
For each one, the station name is accompanied by eerie music, evil laughter, wolf howls, owl hoots, ringing bells, and creaking doors. At Porte de Vincennes station (line 1), passengers can hear dramatic piano notes, while at Châtelet station (line 1), the sound of a creaking door surprises users. In a press release, the RATP announced that these Halloween soundscapes will be played until November 2, 2025.
Animations and other surprises are also in store this Friday, October 31, at several stations and train stations on the Île-de-France Mobilités network operated by the RATP. The Régie autonome des transports parisiens has also created special audio announcements for Halloween. "Dear travelers young and old, spirits, ghosts, and mischievous revenants, we have some thrilling surprises in store for you at certain metro stations," can be heard throughout the RATP network.
