Line 2 of the Paris metro was inaugurated in 1900 and has followed the same route since 1903. Traced in a semicircle, it serves the north of the capital from east to west, while remaining within Paris itself. From Nation to Porte Dauphine, line 2 has 25 stops over a total distance of 12.4 km, while providing connections to most other metro lines with the exception of 8, 10 and 14. It links working-class neighborhoods in the 11th, 12th, 9th, 18th, 19th and 20th arrondissements, as well as upscale residential areas in the 16th and 17th arrondissements.
Points of interest on line 2 of the RATP network include the famous Père Lachaise cemetery, Belleville and its park offering a beautiful panorama of the capital, the Rotonde Stalingrad, the Pigalle district at the foot of the Butte Montmartre, the Parc Monceau and the Place de l'Etoile, home to theArc de Triomphe.
