Bad news for Île-de-France public transport users. In an interview with Le Parisien, Valérie Pécresse, President of theÎle-de-France region and ofÎle-de-France Mobilités(IDFM), confirmed that the Pass Navigo will increase every year until 2031, the completion date of the Grand Paris Express(GPE). However, these increases will remain below inflation + 1%.
For several years now, the price of the Pass Navigo has beenrising steadily. In 2025, it rose from €86.40 to €88.80, an increase of 2.8%, higher than the average inflation rate estimated by Insee at 2%. This trend will continue in the years to come, to finance the 300 km of new metro lines for the Grand Paris Express.
In accordance with an agreement signed in 2023 between IDFM and the French State, companies and local authorities, which finance part of the Navigo Pass, will have to increase their contributions. Valérie Pécresse nevertheless promises that these increases will be"gradual and moderate".
The left-wing opposition has made no secret of its dissatisfaction. During the vote on the 2025 budget, its representatives denounced the introduction of the new unified €2.50 fare for travel throughout the Île-de-France region. This"ticketing revolution" would cost IDFM €30 million and could further increase the price of the Navigo Pass.
Added to these fare hikes is another piece of bad news: the Grand Paris Express is behind schedule. In February 2024, the Société des Grands Projets announced that lines 15 sud, 16 and 17 would not open until the second quarter of 2027. A worrying situation for residents of the inner suburbs, who are eagerly awaiting these new infrastructures.
"It's bad news," admits Valérie Pécresse, who has announced a control and coordination mission to try to reduce delays. But in the meantime, users will have to cope with annual increases in the Navigo Pass.
