This Wednesday, July 23, 2025, on Boulevard Montparnasse in the capital's 6th arrondissement , local residents and passers-by could see a rather impressive amount of smoke rising from theNotre-Dame des Champs church. A fire had broken out in the heart of the church building. Firefighters were quickly mobilized and were able to bring the blaze under control by late morning, before clearing the smoke from the building.

On X (ex-twitter), the mayor of the 6th arrondissement, Jean-Pierre Lecoq, praised the efforts of the emergency services, who quickly extinguished the flames using a hose. He added that it was still too early to assess the extent of the damage to this historic Romanesque building, built between 1867 and 1876. There were no casualties as a result of the fire in this Catholic church.

The incident was quickly contained before the fire department proceeded to clear the building of smoke using fans, according to BFMTV. The cause of this morning's fire is still unknown.
