Line 6 of the Paris metro is experiencing major disruption this Wednesday morning, following a serious accident at Bercy station, in the 12th arrondissement of Paris, at around 8:30 am. This situation is having a direct impact on the journeys of thousands of Parisians who use this line every day, crossing Paris from east to west.
The incident, which occurred at the height of the morning rush hour, has forced RATP to completely halt traffic between Daumesnil and Place d'Italie stations. This decision concerns both directions of traffic, making it impossible for trains to pass along this strategic section linking the 12th and 13th arrondissements.
Five stations have been out of service since this morning: Dugommier, Bercy, Quai de la Gare, Chevaleret and Nationale. These stops, located in the 12th and 13th arrondissements of Paris, usually serve the capital's residential and business districts.
Bercy station, the epicenter of the incident, is a crucial crossing point for many travelers heading for the business district or connecting with the RER A and D lines at Gare de Lyon. This interruption also affects access to emblematic sites such as the Parc de Bercy and theAccorHotels Arena.
According to the latest information communicated by RATP on its X account, normal traffic is expected to resume at 10:30 am. However, this estimate remains conditional on the progress of ongoing security and intervention operations.
The technical teams and emergency services mobilized on site are working to return the situation to normal as soon as possible. The Paris transport authority is asking users to allow for longer journey times and to modify their itinerary wherever possible.
Faced with this interruption to line 6, several bypass solutions are available to Ile-de-France commuters to reach their usual destinations.
Metro line 8 is the most direct alternative. This line serves Daumesnil station, with connections to bus lines 29, 46, 64 and 71. Line 8 also offers numerous connections, notably to Invalides with the RER C and to Opéra with the RER A.
Several bus routes also allow you to get around the closed zone. Line 57 crosses the area from Place d'Italie to Gare de Lyon-Diderot. Passengers can also use buses 27, 47, 62, 67 and 83 to reach Place d'Italie.
Line 14, which serves Bercy station, offers a strategic connection with a wide range of services: 10 metro lines, 5 RER lines and 3 Transilien lines. This automated line provides quick connections to Châtelet and Gare de Lyon.
Passengers can check traffic conditions on the Citymapper application or the Bonjour RATP application for up-to-date information. They can also use SNCF Connect to plan their journeys, integrating all modes of transport in the Paris region.
For less busy travelers, walking remains an option between some nearby stations. Daumesnil station is just a few hundred meters from other stops such as Bel-Air (line 6) or Michel Bizot (line 8).
This situation is a reminder of the considerable impact an incident can have on the daily mobility of millions of Parisians. Passengers are asked to be patient and anticipate longer journey times until normal service resumes on this line, which usually carries over 100 million passengers a year.
