Discontent is growing in France, and new protests are driving the French into the streets. This Thursday, September 18, 2025, a major social movement is sweeping the country. Several unions have called a strike, and numerous disruptions are expected throughout the day.
Trains and public transport, schools, hospitals, pharmacists and air traffic controllers, civil service services: during this day of strikes and demonstrations, a large number of services and businesses are likely to be disrupted, if not completely inaccessible.
In the world of culture, the strike is also having an effect. Several monuments and museums will keep their doors closed on September 18. Others are only partially open.
Such is the case of the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris. Located at the end of the Tuileries Gardens, this museum is famous for its monumental paintings by Claude Monet, but also for its varied collections, ranging from Impressionism to modern art. Works by Picasso, Modigliani, Douanier Rousseau, Utrillo, Soutine and others can be seen here...
However, these collections will be inaccessible this Thursday, September 18, 2025: on its website, the Musée de l'Orangerie states that " due to a national industrial action, only the rooms showing Monet's Water Lilies are open. " The museum's other galleries will remain closed throughout the day. We therefore advise you to postpone your visit to a later date.
