This weekend, RER C commuters in Essonne will have to be patient and rethink their itinerary. No trains will be running between Paris Invalides and Juvisy, or between the capital and Massy-Palaiseau on Saturday October 11 and Sunday October 12, 2025. This total interruption is part of the "major works weekends" orchestrated by Transilien SNCFon behalf ofÎle-de-France Mobilités. These major works on the line's rail network are aimed at improving infrastructure, but are seriously complicating travel for thousands of Ile-de-France passengers.
During these two days, the Essonne stations ofAthis-Mons, Juvisy, Massy-Verrières and Massy-Palaiseau will simply not be served by the RER C line. This means that travelers will have to use other means of transport to reach Paris or to get around the département. However, Transilien SNCF is promising alternatives to maintain mobility, even if journey times are likely to be lengthened.
For those who need to travel between Choisy-le-Roi and Juvisy, the line's official blog recommends using city bus routes 480, 482, 483 or 487. A route that requires a little more patience, but still allows you to get around. Travelers wishing to reach Massy-Palaiseau or Massy-Verrières from Paris can take the RER B to Saint-Michel Notre-Dame, a more direct and efficient alternative for crossing the capital and reaching Essonne.
The Circule users' association, always on the lookout for disruptions to the Ile-de-France network, made a point of ironizing the situation: "In Essonne, we'll be left with the RER B, the RER D and quite a few more or less express buses. From Arpajon, there'll be no shortage of choices for getting to Paris... in twice the time." A comment that reflects users' exasperation with these recurrent interruptions, even if they are necessary to modernize the network.
However, there is some good news for Sunday evening travellers: trains to Dourdan and Saint-Martin-d'Étampes will resume partial service from 5pm. These trains will be departing and arriving from the above-ground "Grandes Lignes" platforms, an unusual arrangement that may require a few adjustments for regulars. Please note, however, that from 11pm on Sunday, no trains will be running between Paris and these destinations in the Essonne region. A replacement bus service will then take over for the rest of the evening.
Faced with this major disruption, Transilien SNCF urges all travelers to consult mobility websites and applications before they travel. Tools such as Île-de-France Mobilités and the Transilien app enable passengers to prepare their itinerary in real time and identify the best alternatives. Travelers can also switch to the RER B and RER D, two lines that remain operational and connect Paris and Essonne, even if connections are more complex.
This work on RER C is a reminder of the importance of modernizing the Paris region's network, even if short-term inconveniences for users remain real. While waiting for the work to be completed, passengers will need to be flexible and plan ahead to avoid any unpleasant surprises this weekend.
