The streets are glowing with festive lights, ugly sweaters are making their annual appearance, Christmas logs are ready to be enjoyed, and gifts have found their spot under the tree. No doubt — Christmas is just around the corner! Once again this year, the RATP is getting into the holiday spirit by offering a series of events to discover at select stations. If you're passing through Pyramides station (serving lines 7 and 14 of the metro), you might come across a display case showcasing a detailed model of historic Thomson-Sprague equipment, surroundedby astronauts and aliens!
But the RATP also decided to immerse you in the holiday spirit right inside the metro trains! Since December 22, 2025, commuters can now experience special Christmas soundscapes on two metro lines, namely Lines 1 and 4. These announcements can be heard on board the trains at stations including La Défense, Porte Maillot, Champs-Élysées - Clemenceau, Châtelet, Gare de Lyon, as well as Porte de Vincennes and Château de Vincennes (Line 1), and at Porte de Clignancourt, Barbès - Rochechouart, Strasbourg Saint-Denis, Saint-Michel, Odéon, Montparnasse - Bienvenüe, Porte d'Orléans, and Bagneux - Lucie Aubrac (Line 4).
At each of these stations, the name is paired with familiar Christmas carols played via the station's chimes. For instance, at Strasbourg Saint-Denis (line 4), travelers can catch a few notes of "Vive le Vent," while at La Défense (line 1), the melody of "Silent Night" sets the holiday mood. The RATP announced in a statement that these Christmas soundscapes will be played until January 2, 2026.
To mark the occasion, RATP has shared on its Soundcloud platform a series of specially crafted soundscapes designed for Christmas. These festive sounds will be played across the network until January 2nd. Give them a listen!
Additionally, in celebration of the New Year, it’s worth noting that several metro lines, RER stations, and Transilien services will operate overnight from December 31 to January 1!
