Paris: why is an airship set to fly over the Champs-Elysées this Sunday?

This Sunday, June 14, 2026, pedestrians will only have to look up to witness a strange phenomenon, a rare sight in the capital, above the Champs-Élysées. It isn’t a plane or a helicopter, but an airship that will skim over the world’s most beautiful avenue. Find out why.

In its anniversary edition, the VivaTech fair is set to make a spectacular splash in the capital’s skies. Sunday, June 14, 2026, the French company HyLight will pilot its dirigeable autonome à hydrogène right above the Champs-Élysées. A rare aerial procession to capture on film, before the aircraft takes up residence above the Porte de Versailles for the entire duration of the show.

This Sunday, the onlookers and tourists along the Champs-Élysées will have the chance to look up and witness an unprecedented sight, an overflight of the famous avenue. Behind the poetry of this Parisian flight lies a genuine ecological revolution "Made in France." HyLight has designed this next-generation airship with a very specific aim: to replace traditional, polluting, and noisy helicopters for the inspection of thousands of kilometers of energy and railway networks.

Thanks to its hydrogen propulsion, this technology behemoth delivers up to 10 hours of endurance and can survey as much as 350 kilometers of infrastructure in a single mission, all in near-silent operation with only water-vapor emissions.

If you miss the big Sunday display, don’t panic. The airship will resume operations a few days later for the entire VivaTech fair, from June 17 to 20, 2026. The craft will be visible hovering steadily above Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, right at the entrance to Hall 7.
