The Close-Up film festival returns for its fifth edition from November 17 to 25, 2025, an opportunity to discover a fine selection of preview films on the theme of cities, architecture, and urban landscapes in cinema, as well as rare films, and to participate in meetings, debates, film concerts, and round tables to fuel reflection.
In addition to previews of films shown at the Cannes Film Festival, the event highlights little-known filmmakers whose works showcase territories that are too often left out of the frame. This is the case for Gianfranco Rosi, this year's guest of honor, who will present his new documentary Pompeii, Sotto le Nuvole, as well as Swiss filmmaker Christoph Schaub, who specializes in architectural cinema and is the subject of a retrospective of seven films this year.
There will also be a focus onurban spaces as places for expression and reinvention of identities, through the Queer City section, which will feature several previously unseen documentaries, including Lesvia, one of the most important archival works in lesbian history, retracing forty years of an LGBT community that settled on the Greek island of Lesbos in the 1970s.
Among the film conferences not to be missed, the themes are varied: "James Bond sets: architecture, modernity, and destruction," "Women builders, a history in pictures," and "Architecture and power, the Mitterrand years." The following nine films will be previewed:
The festival will be held in numerous venues in Paris and the Île-de-France region. You can find the full program, participating venues, and schedules on the event website.
