Three years after presenting her first feature, Mi iubita, mon amour, in Special Screening at the Cannes 2021 Festival, French actress and now director Noémie Merlant returns to the Croisette with her second film, Les Femmes au Balcon, unveiled this time in Midnight Screening at the Cannes 2024 Festival.
Les Femmes au Balcon will open in theaters on December 11, 2024.
Synopsis: Three women in a Marseille apartment in the middle of a heatwave. Opposite them, their mysterious neighbor, the object of all their fantasies. They find themselves trapped in a terrifying and delirious affair, with their freedom their only quest.
Three women(Noémie Merlant herself, Souheila Yacoub and Sanda Codreanu) are in a Marseille apartment in the middle of a heatwave. Opposite them, their mysterious neighbor is the object of all their fantasies. They find themselves trapped in a terrifying and delirious affair, with their freedom their only quest.
Thierry Frémaux revealed a little more about this new film from the young French director, during the press conference on April 11, 2024: "Noémie Merlant made her first film with the means at hand, Mi iubita, mon amour, and that was its quality, its strength. This one is quite different, a feminist comedy set in the beautiful city of Marseille. Noémie Merlant and her screenwriter Céline Sciamma have organized a series of events, each more zany than the last."
He continues: "We see a Noémie Merlant who has changed her style, compared to her first film, but not her convictions and even less her desire for cinema; it's a strong film."
