The Cannes Film Festival 2026 is drawing to a close, and prizes are starting to rain down here and there. While the Semaine de la Critique, the Quinzaine des Cinéastes, the Palm Dog and La Cinef have already unveiled their palmarès, and with the Queer Palm, the palmarès of the Un Certain Regard selection Un Certain Regard and the Prix du Cinéma Positif will be announced soon, it’s now the turn of the Œil d'Or 2026 to be awarded.
As a reminder, the Oeil d'Or awards every year the best documentary film at the Cannes Film Festival, across all categories. For this 2026 edition, the Oeil d'Or jury was made up of Ukrainian director Mstyslav Chernov, Tabitha Jackson, Géraldine Pailhas, Lina Soualem, and Victor Castanet.
This year, it's Pegah Ahangarani's film Rehearsals for a Revolution. This debut Czech film was presented in a Special Screening.
Synopsis : Through five portraits of her loved ones, five figures of resistance, Pegah Ahangarani traces the intimate story of her life. Drawing on her personal archives—family videos, protest footage, press articles and audio recordings—she traverses more than forty years of Iran’s history. From the early stirrings of 1979 to the war unleashed in 2026, she forges a dialogue between private memory and collective history, painting a portrait of a country defined by political repression yet sustained without relenting by the longing for freedom and the hope of a revolution.
Note that the Special Jury Prize was awarded to Tin Castle by Alexander Murphy, unveiled at Critics' Week.
